Weekend Walking Adventure: Exploring the Inner West Foreshores

"Amidst the quiet paths and blooming flowers, we found not just a trail, but a reminder of the beauty in life’s transitions."

This past weekend, we experienced a delightful walking adventure along the Foreshores of Inner West, starting from the Kokoda Memorial Track in Rhodes. With my daughter scootering alongside, we set out on a journey that promised beautiful views, a mix of natural and urban landscapes, and a touch of history.

Our walk began along the serene Parramatta River, where the Foreshore Trail beckoned us. This level walk meanders through bushland, city reserves, and the heritage grounds of Yaralla House. The trail, though a bit bumpy and muddy in parts, offered stunning views of the river, framed by towering trees that seemed to tell stories of the past. Along the way, we discovered many beautiful flowers, including delicate wild dandelions that added a touch of whimsy to the path. The tranquillity of the surroundings was a perfect escape from the city’s hustle, and we found ourselves immersed in the beauty of nature.

As we continued and walked through the residential area, we were greeted by the sight of many beautiful flower trees lining the streets. One of our favorites was the pink magnolia, with its vibrant blooms standing out against the still-bare branches of winter. The sight of these flowers reminded us that winter was almost over and that spring was just around the corner. The air seemed fresher, filled with the promise of new beginnings and warmer days ahead.

We then passed through Breakfast Point, a charming area with modern houses, apartments, and well-maintained parks. My daughter was thrilled to scooter around here, enjoying the smooth paths and open spaces. The area’s quiet streets and friendly atmosphere made it an ideal spot for her to explore.

Our journey then led us to Cabarita Wharf, where we hopped on a ferry for a scenic ride to Meadowbank. The gentle sway of the ferry and the cool river breeze made for a relaxing break after a long walk. After reaching Meadowbank Wharf, we crossed the beautiful John Whitton Bridge, which offered a panoramic view of the river and its surroundings. The walk across the bridge was a highlight, offering a perfect view to appreciate the day’s adventure.

In total, we spent about 4 hours covering the 10 km circuit. Finally, we arrived back in Rhodes, completing our loop. It was a day well spent, filled with exploration, nature, and quality time as a family.

Love,
