Kiama Lighthouse to Little Blowhole: A Coastal Adventure
On a slightly gloomy day, when the weather couldn't quite make up its mind, we set out for an approximately 5 km coastal walk from Kiama Lighthouse to Little Blowhole. The sky shifted between sunshine and cloudiness, creating an almost surreal atmosphere—warmth one moment and a cold breeze the next. It was the perfect kind of day for a relaxing, laid-back walk.
We began at the iconic Kiama Lighthouse, standing tall against the sky. After taking in the views, we ventured down to see the famous Kiama Blowhole. Although the wind wasn't strong enough for a dramatic water spray, the experience of being near the rocks and hearing the ocean's roar was still captivating.
From there, we continued along the coastal trail, passing by stunning beaches that made the journey all the more scenic. Our path led us through the Kiama Showground, a quiet and open space, perfect for stretching our legs before reaching Kendalls Beach. This spot was serene and tranquil, with only a few other people around, letting us enjoy the gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore.
Our main destination was the Little Blowhole, which, despite its smaller size, offered a beautiful and peaceful view. We paused for a while, taking in the coastal sights before deciding to head back into Kiama town.
After our coastal walk from Kiama Lighthouse to Little Blowhole, we returned to Kiama town, a place where history and modernity blend seamlessly. Established in the 19th century, Kiama holds on to its rich heritage through preserved Victorian and Georgian-style buildings like the Kiama Post Office and School of Arts Hall, which add old-world charm to its streets. Alongside these historic structures, the town center offers a modern flair with its boutique shops, art galleries, and trendy cafés, creating a unique atmosphere. The mix of old and new was the perfect setting to end our day with a South African lunch, experiencing Kiama’s coastal beauty with a touch of contemporary culture.
The walk was easy and relaxing, passing beaches and scenic spots. After a relaxing 3-hour return walk, we decided to make a final stop at Cathedral Rock. Unfortunately, strong currents and high tide prevented us from exploring it up close, but I managed to capture a quick, beautiful shot of its striking rock formation. With a hopeful “Until next time!” we wrapped up our adventure.
Love,
