A Weekend Morning at Taralga Wildlife Park: Up Close with Australian Wildlife

Located just 2.5 hours from Sydney, Taralga Wildlife Park is a hidden gem offering a wonderful, authentic Australian wildlife experience. The journey was absolutely worth it, and upon arrival, we were greeted by three adorable donkeys. They were incredibly hungry and eagerly snatched food from our hands, which was provided for free at the counter. Their enthusiasm for food set a fun tone for the day.

The first sight that truly captured our attention was a proud, colourful peacock. This feathered beauty strutted around the park, showing off its iridescent display while calling out for everyone’s attention—a true showman!

Then came one of the most exciting moments—meeting the wombats. Our first encounter was with Bridgette, a cheeky little wombat. My husband tried to give her a friendly pat, but Bridgette, being a bit of a biter, thought his finger was food and tried to snatch it!

We were fortunate to meet another wombat named Wilma, who was much gentler. Wilma was a hugger, and everyone fell in love with her calm, affectionate nature. Hugging Wilma was definitely the highlight of our visit.

Our daughter also had a great time playing with and feeding the birds from outside its cage. There was such a massive variety of birds throughout the park. We even encountered black cockatoos, a giant pheasant, and many other birds we had never seen before, whose names we couldn’t remember but were fascinating to watch.

We spent about two hours wandering the park, discovering more animals as we explored. From majestic emus, curious goat, blue tongue lizard and lovely camels to a mother goat with her baby, white kangaroos, and even a rare white peacock, every corner of the park had something new to offer.

The staff was really friendly and helpful, making the experience even more enjoyable. Visiting early in the morning is preferable, as the park gets busier during the day, especially on weekends. The close encounter with Wilma the wombat was something we’ll always cherish, but the variety of animals and the relaxed atmosphere made this park truly worth a visit.

Love,

WanderNest family :D
